Blue Haze: For Dis/appearance

Through situating myself in the midst of a convoluted relationship between drops of nautical blue liquid acrylic, water, and pieces of 100% cotton sheets, I attempt to conceptualize and visualize the process of how memories appear and disappear in one’s mind. This body of work has come into existence through writing prompts that I have taken part in during and after the workshop series led by Ghinwa Yassine at VIVO Media Arts Centre in June and July 2022. This stop-motion video is composed of a sequence of digital scans of a series of conceptual, non-figurative, nonrepresentational paintings born out of the unpredictable correlation of liquid paint, water, paper, and my hands.  This body of work calls upon contemplating the back-and-forth movements between digital and material, as well as remembering and forgetting. I invite the viewer to linger with questions such as ‘why remember/forget?’, ‘what to remember/forget?’, and ‘how to remember/forget?’
